The University of Ibadan Youth Friendly Centre It was established and commissioned on the 3rdof October 2007 by the former Vice Chancellor Professor Olufemi Bamiro. The Centre, an initiative of Professor Isaac Adewole, was initially was a Psychosocial treatment Centre of the PEPFAR/ APIN Program in partnership with the College of Medicine and UNDP. However, it became a full fledge University of Ibadan Centre in 2012 during the Vice Chancellorship of Professor Isaac Adewole.
WHO WE ARE (OVERVIEW OF YFC)
The Centre was established to serve as a therapeutic Centre to students through the services provided. The services and facilities are for the uplifting and rendering of diverse support to the students and University community at large. Some of the services include; General Counseling and precisely HIV/AIDS Counseling and Testing, Advocacy and Outreaches on Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS counseling and screening with follow up on attendant issues, Psychosocial Counselling and interventions.
The Centre plays a vital role in the yearly orientation exercises and is often used as one of the major Centres for University Health Service Registration. The Centre organizes as well as facilitate at programs aimed at disseminating information about the University that will help students optimize their stay in UI. This done through talks, lectures, recreation activities, and distribution of educative handbills.
Lastly, the Centre serves as a training ground for students that are into related specialty. The beneficiary Departments includes; Counselling and Human Resources, Nursing, Health Promotion and Education, Computer Science, Public Health, Human Kinetics and Health Education.
VISION
To be a flagship Youth Friendly Centre producing Youths empowered to comprehend contribute to the development and sustenance of activities aimed at ensuring healthy living, decent human conduct and interaction, as well as excellent leadership qualities to influence positive behavioral change in the society
MISSION
· To create a friendly and conducive environment for youths, to freely share personal issues, challenges and dissemination of information on HIV/AID, STI and related issues.
· To establish a fun, safe and inclusive platform for health social interaction amongst students and youths
· To bridge the gap by providing a viable system for sustaining creativity, entrepreneurial networking and volunteerism
· To create a society where every youth in the University of Ibadan have the opportunity to affect their life positively by developing systems that foster youth participation in society and decision making
· Provide a friendly setting to engage students in recreational activities and dialogues on contemporary issues towards empowering them.
